Strategic Aim
The purpose of the Speed Management Strategy is to address both 'excess' and ' inappropriate' speed on the roads in County Durham and Darlington, in order to reduce casualties and improve the quality of life for people who live in the area and those travelling within it.Key Objectives
- To reduce accidents and casualties, in terms of both numbers and severity.
- To improve the quality of life in local communities.
- To reduce the risk to vulnerable road users.
- To create a safer and calmer traffic environment by reducing excessive and inappropriate speed.
- To improve driver behaviour.
- To create a positive attitude to the effects of speed by all road users.
- To reduce the demand upon the Health Service and other public services.
