Seat Belt Use
Drivers and front seat passengers should sit back in their seats as far as possible. This will help reduce the chances of coming into contact with the dashboard or steering wheel in a collision.
Try to avoid wearing thick clothing under the seat belt as this may affect the ability of the belt to restrain you properly.
Make sure that the belt is adjusted properly by placing the lap belt as low as you can over the hips, and not over the abdomen. Make sure that the shoulder part of the belt lies on the chest and over the shoulder.
Once fitted, take up any slack in the belt by holding the belt at the chest and pulling up tightly.
Trying to improve the comfort of the belt by putting in padding or cushions will reduce the effectiveness of the seat belt.
Be safe on the move in County Durham.
