Publicity
Publicity campaigns are the best way to get the road safety message to the public at large. Whilst engineering measures can help to reduce speeds, separate road users and provide other safety features, it is education of the road user through publicity that may make a change in attitude and behaviour. Each year the team runs a number of high profile road safety awareness campaigns using radio, bus backs, bus shelters, posters and leaflets to help reduce road casualties.
The campaigns are targeted at specific groups with the aim of changing attitudes and behaviour and in the long term, and the culture of the road-using public. We try to encourage better behaviour on the roads of County Durham, in an effort to make roads safer and reduce the number of people who are killed and injured each year.
