Locations and Contacts

The County of Durham Registration Service is responsible for registering births, marriages, civil partnerships and deaths. For the purpose of registrations the county is a single unified registration district with nine service access points. The four full time offices are located at Bishop Auckland, Durham City, Peterlee and Stanley. A further five part time offices where birth and death registrations can be undertaken are located at Barnard Castle, Chester-le-Street, Crook, Consett and Stanhope.

Registration of Births and Deaths

To register a birth or a death contact the nearest registration service office in the area in which the birth or death occurred. A registration can be made at any of the offices within the County of Durham Registration District. Please note that a prior appointment is necessary to attend all registration service offices to minimise waiting times.
