The Register Office is situated in the heart of historic Durham City, overlooking the River Wear and just a short walk through cobbled streets or along the riverbank to Durham Cathedral and Durham Castle, which is recognised as a world heritage site standing high on the old city peninsula above the loop of the river.

The office is in a Grade II listed Georgian terraced townhouse in the old quarter of the city and there is metered parking directly outside.

The ceremony room is on the ground floor and is easily accessible, although there are 2 steps into the building and also along the corridor toward the 'Durham Room'. At the present time there is no disabled toilet provision. The ceremony room comfortably seats 34 guests and its warm ambience welcomes everyone into its relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

It is elegantly decorated with a rich rose pink carpet and deep pink velvet drapes. Claret upholstered chairs and beech furniture co-ordinate perfectly with the décor and silk floral arrangements.

The 'Durham Room' is so named because of the historic pictures depicting the old city hanging therein. It looks out through Georgian windows onto a beautifully manicured garden with arched trellis leading to patio areas and garden seats, where your photographs may be taken.

Ceremonies are held between 9.30am and 3.30pm weekdays and 9.30am and 12.30pm Saturdays. Ceremony times are also available outside of these hours by prior arrangement for which an additional fee will apply.
