County Durham Statement of Community Involvement

The County Council adopted its Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) on 21 August 2006. The County Durham SCI is a formal statement of the County Council’s policy for involving interested parties in preparing the minerals and waste Development Plan Documents (DPDs) to be included in the County Durham Minerals & Waste Development Framework (MWDF) and for consulting on those planning applications that are dealt with by the County Council. Now that the SCI is adopted the preparation of the minerals and waste DPDs in the MWDF and consultation on those planning applications dealt with by the County Council will have to comply with the provisions of the adopted SCI.

Where Can I see a Copy of the SCI?

Copies of the SCI are available for inspection at County Hall Help Desk and at District Council Planning Offices. In addition copies of the SCI are available for reference purposes at County libraries and at the Dales Centre at Stanhope during normal office opening hours. The documents can also be downloaded from our website and viewed online.

The Council has also prepared an adoption statement. The adoption statement accompanies the adopted SCI and provides details of where the adopted SCI and the Planning Inspector's Report are available for inspection. In addition it indicates the locations that the SCI is available for reference purposes and how any interested party may make an application to challenge the adoption of the SCI.

The SCI Preparation Process

The SCI has been prepared over the last 18 months. During July/August 2005 we consulted upon our Consultation Draft SCI and during November/December 2005 we consulted upon our Submission SCI. How Can I obtain a Copy of the SCI?

Copies of the SCI are available free of charge and can obtained by contacting the Planning Policy Team.
