County Durham Minerals & Waste Development Framework
The Planning & Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 required Durham County Council, as Minerals and Waste Planning Authority, to prepare a Minerals & Waste Development Framework (MWDF) to replace the County Durham Minerals Local Plan and the County Durham Waste Local Plan. Over the last four years work has progressed to prepare the new MWDF and a number of consultation documents have been released. Preparation of the MWDF has now been overtaken by events. As a direct result of local government review the County Durham MWDF will now not be prepared. Instead the new Unitary Council of Durham will prepare a single Local Development Framework (LDF) for County Durham. This new county wide LDF will set out all the new Unitary Council's spatial planning policies including those for minerals and waste.
In November 2005 we consulted upon our Minerals Issues and Options Paper. All the comments we received on this document and a copy of the Minerals and Waste Development Framework Key Issues Paper which was released in January 2005 can be found on the previous consultation and consultee responses web page.
In January 2006 we consulted upon Sustainability Appraisal Report for our Minerals Core Strategy DPD, in October 2007 we consulted upon a Habitats Regulations Screening Assessment for our Minerals Core Strategy DPD and in November 2007 we consulted upon a Sustainability Appraisal Report for our Waste Core Strategy DPD. All these documents can be found on our Sustainability Appraisal web page.
Where can I get further information on the new County Durham Local Development Framework?
A new County Durham Local Development Scheme (LDS) was approved by Cabinet on 20 November 2008 and submitted to Government Office North East in December. This document sets out what new planning documents will be prepared by the new Unitary Council for County Durham and when they will be prepared. The new County Durham Local Development Scheme is available for download from the Council's main planning web page. Please note this new Local Development Scheme replaces the County Council's previous Minerals & Waste Development Scheme (MWDS) which came into force in April 2007.Previous Minerals and Waste Development Framework documents
