Planning Development Control Team

Determining Planning Applications

The Planning Development Control team deals with a range of planning and related applications for minerals and waste activities including updating old minerals permissions to meet modern environmental standards. It also considers proposals for County Council development, such as schools, roads and social care facilities. When applications are submitted appropriate consultation and publicity is undertaken to enable people and organisations to make their views known about proposals before decisions are made. Decisions on planning applications are taken by the Council’s Planning Committee which is made up of elected councillors and normally meets monthly. More straightforward decisions and day-to-day matters are delegated to officers. The decision to grant or refuse planning permission is taken in the light of relevant policies and detailed considerations with a view to ensuring that the effects of new development on the environment and communities are acceptable.

Site Monitoring and Enforcement

The team checks new developments and existing sites to ensure that the operations are being carried out in accordance with planning conditions and approved plans, including reinstatement, final restoration, and aftercare on minerals and waste sites. By regular inspection, and liaison with operators and local communities, we aim to prevent unauthorised operations and to minimise environmental impacts. However, there may be circumstances where enforcement action is needed to secure compliance, or deal with unauthorised development.

For further information on this section, please go to the Monitoring and Enforcement web pages, where you can also report a development complaint and access the enforcement register.
