The Durham Miner Project
...taking the past into the future...
From the Lead in the West to the Coal in the East, the Durham Miner Project has been responsilbe for recording and presenting the working, social and environmental sides of County Durham's mining history.
As County Durham's Mining History is unique, the project has aimed to involve local people in preserving County Durham's Mining Past. Operating throughout County Durham and part of Sunderland during 2003 and early 2004, the project involved groups of local people, supported by a team, researching their local mining history.
The Durham Miner Project was funded and supported by Durham County Council, the Learning and Skill Council, New Opportunities Fund, North East Museums, Libraries and Archives Council and Sunderland University.
The Durham Miner Website houses research projects and material which has been added to preserve our local heritage for generations to come.
Visit the Durham Miner Website for more information on local history course and presentations that took place. In addition, see the newsletters archive, sample the online learning seminars or use the historical maps.
