Thornley
First Home Zone in County Durham
After working closely with the community through the New Thornley Partnership, Groundwork East Durham considered that the eastern approach to the village be prioritised as requiring improvement.
As a result of the above, and in partnership with each other, Groundwork and the County Council targeted two unadopted streets, Galt Street and Asquith Street and designed a Home Zones as part of a general improvement scheme to Thornley's eastern 'gateway'.
Joint funding by the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund, the County Council's Local Transport Plan and the Single Investment Programme resulted in the scheme being successfully completed in May 2003.
