Second Home Zone in County Durham

The scheme involved a previously unsurfaced and unadopted street that served Prospect Terrace and Edward Terrace being transformed with new block paving, trees, shrub planting and lighting.

Design and consultation was carried out by Jacobs Babtie, one of the County Council's Strategic Alliance partners after initial consultation work by students from Newcastle University as part of their final year degree course.

Neighbourhood ownership of the project began during the design process with residents giving views to the design team as the proposals were developed.

Joint funding by the County Council's Local Transport Plan and Urban & Rural Renaissance Programme, Durham City Council's SRB and Durham Villages Partnership and Brandon and Byshottles Parish Council resulted in the scheme being successfully completed in July 2004.
