Library Fines
Although most of our services are free we do make charges for in some areas. Our current fees and charges are as follows:
Children and Senior Citizens - 5p per item per day up to a maximum charge of £3.00 per item.
Children under 5 - no fine.
Children/ Senior Citizens - 30p per item day up to a maximum charge of £12.50.
Senior Citizens - 30p per item.
Children/Unemployed - no charge.
Reservation fees for audio or video materials - no charge.
Adults - £5.00 per item
Senior Citizens - £3.00 per item
Children/Unemployed - no charge
Children/ Senior Citizens - 50% of full replacement cost.

Children’s titles - free.
Print denied - free.
Authority is delegated to the Director of Adult and Community Services to vary charges in the light of local circumstances that reflects provision by other local agencies. Any variation would not be less than 50% of the standard charge and will be clearly advertised.
Rest of the World: first sheet £2.00, each subsequent sheet £2.00.
Incoming transmission - 50p per sheet to maximum of £4.00.
Fax by Satellite: Fax via Inmarsat Satellite (Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean, Pacific Ocean) £5.00 standard per page.
Lending Services
Fines on Overdue Books and CDs
Adults - 15p per item per day up to a maximum charge of £9.00 per item.Children and Senior Citizens - 5p per item per day up to a maximum charge of £3.00 per item.
Children under 5 - no fine.
Fines on Late/Non Return of Music Sets
For music sets, which are returned either late or incomplete a standard charge of £30.00 will be made.Fines on Late Return of Language Courses

Fines on Late Return of Videos and DVDs

Overdue reminders are always sent when items are not returned on time. If borrowers register their email addresses with us, they will also receive an email reminder as soon as items on loan become overdue.Reservation Fees for Books

Loan Charges for Audio Materials
Compact Discs (1 week loan) £1.00 per CD - borrow 2 and get a 3rd CD loan on the same day free.Spoken Word Cassettes (3-week loan)

Language Courses
Standard charge for whole course to be paid in advance - 3 month loan (more than single cassette/CD) £11.00.Video and DVD

British Standards Online
In order to comply with the licensing requirements of the British Standards Institute, only library members who live the County or firms based in the County holding a corporate membership ticket, will be able to have a print out.All print outs are for loan only and must be returned.
First 5 pages free, 10p for each subsequent page.
Hire of Rooms
Commercial organisations - actual cost plus 50%.
Non-commercial organisations/registered charities - cost only.
Friends of the DLI Museum - one free hire per year.
Information Services
Printouts from Durham Record or microfilm reader/printer, charges per small image ( pages from census returns, small photographs and pages of text): 40p per copy.Charges per large image (large photographs and maps): 50p per copy.
Local map copies - cost + 15%.
Provision of Community Information: full text cost + 15%.
Reproduction of Photographs
For private study purposes cost + 15%.
For commercial use cost + 15% plus royalty of £20.00 per photograph (minimum) or copy of book (if appropriate).
