SustainabilityProject Fund

The County Durham Sustainability Project Fund (formerly the LA21 Partnership Project Fund) is a small fund which is administered by Durham County Council. It is available to support projects based in County Durham that contribute towards sustainable development and demonstrate partnership working, with priority given to new and innovative projects.

Since the fund was set up in 1995 it has helped to support over 87 projects and is about to reach its £100,000 mark in 2007, with £100,000 donated directly from the fund to sustainability projects across the County. This is the second milestone for the fund – in its tenth year it had contributed to projects in the county which had a total value of £1Million.

What projects are eligible for the fund?

The County Durham Sustainability Project Fund aims to fund innovative projects that exemplify good practice in sustainability. These could include:
  • Demonstration projects.
  • Awareness raising projects.
  • Research and development.
  • Feasibility studies.
Projects much demonstrate partnership working and have match funding.

Past Recipients of the fund span all aspects of sustainability.

Who can apply for the fund?

Local voluntary organisations, charities, community groups, local authorities, statutory organisations, or small businesses working in partnership.

What is the application process and how long does it take?

Applications can be submitted all year round. If your application meets the fund’s criteria the project must be presented at the relevant Partnership Forum Meeting for approval. These meet three times a year (February, June and October). If approval from the forum is given, the project is then submitted for final consideration and applicants are notified in writing as to whether they have been successful.

The project fund will soon be taking applications for 2007-2008. An on-line application form will be available soon.
