Coal Mining Oral History Working with Schools
A teaching resource pack has been developed so that the young people can learn about their heritage from the men and women who lived and worked in mining communities and helped make County Durham what it is today as well as promoting the use and value of oral history.
The resource pack was launched in October 2005 and has been given to primary and secondary schools in County Durham. The pack consists of a CD-ROM containing lesson plans and activities based on specially selected oral history extracts. The resource pack was initially designed for Keystages 2 and 3 and focussed on history but it will also be useful in many other areas of the National Curriculum.
