Coal Mining Oral History Co-ordinator

Sheila Forster was the Coal Mining Oral History Co-ordinator for this new and exciting project and continues to be a regional representative of the Oral History Society.

Sheila Forster

Sheila says: "Some people may have met me when I worked on the The Durham Miner Project. In this new project I have been recording the personal memories of the men and women who lived and worked in the mining communities of County Durham, as well as capturing some of the local dialects and 'pitmatic' terminology before they were lost."

As well recording interviews and delivering workshops the co-ordinator has been involved in raising the profile of the project as well as advocating the use of oral history by attending and speaking at conferences and by exhibiting some of the project’s work at a variety of events and venues.
