Frequently Asked Questions

If you are unable to access the service then staff can visit you at home. All staff carry identification badges.
Do you sell bath lifts?
The Home Independence Shops and the Equipment Demonstration Centres have a range of battery/electric powered bath lifts that you can see and try. I need assistance choosing a stairlift? Can you help?

Details of several reputable companies can also be provided and they will provide a quotation at local authority prices so there is a financial saving. There is a demonstration straight stairlift at the centres in Durham, Newton Aycliffe and Bishop Auckland.

The shops do not sell electrical or battery operated equipment such as bath lifts, electric beds and electric riser/recliner chairs. Examples of this type of equipment is available at the Equipment Demonstration Centres for customers to try before they buy. No, these are more medical equipment and should be available from either your GP or pharmacist.
