Children's Network Events

Children's Network are hosting a Christmas party on Saturday 6 December 2008 1.00pm - 3.00pm at:

Abbey Leisure Centre
Abbey Road
Pity Me
Durham
DH1 5DQ

It will include competitions, games, prizes and a disco. There will also be face painting, Christmas arts and crafts, as well as a bouncy castle and soft play area. A festive food buffet will also be provided. Full entertainment will be provided by the Black Knight Disco and Nikki Noo Noo's Party. Everyone is welcolme parents/carers, brothers and sisters. Come along and have some free fun with Children's Network.

The County Durham Primary Care Trust is running a 'Speak Easy' course which tackles talking to your child about relationships and sex education.

Parent/Carers Conference - Making Changes Together 2

The second Friendly Conference organised 'By Parents For Parents' was held on Wednesday 1 October 2008 at Beamish Hall Hotel.

Seaham Hall Conference

A conference was held at Seaham Hall Hotel, 20 May 2008 for parent/carers of disabled children and professionals to identify together what future services are needed for disabled children.

This event was the first in its kind, which was organised by parents for parents, and was supported by Contact A Family charity in partnership with Durham County Council and County Durham and Darlington PCT.

Seaham Hall Event

60 parents took part in the conference and were welcomed by parents and joint Chairs Lesley Moore and Chris Shields. There was a key note speech by Policy Lead for Disabled Children – Helen Wheatley and an update from Durham County Council by Gail Hopper - Head of Safeguarding and Specialist Services.

The conference was a great success, parents’ suggestions and comments have been taken on board and actions agreed. A future conference is planned for the autumn where parents will hear about the progress which has been made.

Whizz-Kidz

Whizz-Kidz is a charity that gives disabled children customised mobility equipment, such as powered or manual wheelchairs and specially adapted tricycles and the training and advice to use them. All services are free. The Newcastle Mobility Centre: If you are a young disabled person, parent, carer or health professional visit or call the Whizz-Kidz Children’s Mobility Centre – your free one stop shop for support and information.
  • Assessments for mobility equipment e.g. specially adapted bikes.
  • Impartial advice and information.
  • Wheelchair and bike and trike training.
