Information for Visitors

We welcome visits to our young people, but as we are a secure unit, we have some simple procedures that need to be followed for your visit to be successful and enjoyable.
  • Only visitors who have been approved in advance by the Youth Offending team worker or social worker, and Secure Services will be allowed to visit.
  • You must book your visit with our Help Desk by ringing 10325 375690 at least two days in advance of your visit. When you visit, please bring the letter that will be sent to you when you book your visit.
  • When you arrive, please come to Secure Services Reception with your letter.
  • Please arrive promptly. We only have limited visiting space, and any lateness may mean that other visits may have to be shortened or postponed. Your own visit may have to be cancelled.
  • Usually only four visitors – two adults and two children – may visit at a time. Larger groups will only be allowed in special circumstances, after consultation with the team manager.
  • Approved visitors under 18 years old must be accompanied by an approved adult.
  • Overnight accommodation can be arranged if necessary.
  • You'll have to leave all your personal possessions in a locker in the reception area.
We prefer visits to take place at these times:

Monday to Friday: 4.00pm – 8.00pm

Weekends: 10.00am – 12 noon, 2.00pm – 6.00pm

  • You can visit for up to one hour at a time, and visits may be supervised by a member of staff.
  • Tea, coffee, soft drinks and biscuits will be provided free of charge. We don't allow anything consumable brought into the unit to be given to the young people either during a visit or to be eaten or drunk later on. This is to keep our young people safe, and we thank you for helping us with this aim.
  • The visiting area is monitored by CCTV.
  • All gifts or personal possessions brought for your child have to be left at reception to be forwarded to them by the duty manager.

Phone Calls

If you would like to phone your child, please do so outside school hours. Better still, if you call after six o'clock, this will allow time for young people to have had tea and finish their homework.

The number to call is 01325 375600, then follow the instructions.

Young people also have the facility to ring you, but be aware that we have a limited number of telephone lines to be used by a large number of young people. Patience is sometimes a virtue! Because of costs, outward calls to mobile phones are time restricted.

Fire Procedures

If the fire alarm sounds during your visit, don't panic. Stay calm and follow the simple instructions you will be given when you arrive for your visit.
