Extra Care for People with Memory Problems

Appleton Lodge

Appleton Lodge, in Spennymoor, is an extra care unit for people with memory problems. It has been developed in partnership between 'HOME Group' and ourselves, Durham County Council. The facility has been designed to meet the needs of older people with memory problems who require more care and support, than other sheltered housing would provide, to enable them to live as independently as possible within their own home within their own community.

Appleton Lodge consists of 21 flats, 16 one bedroom units and 5 two bedroom units. There is on-site care available 24 hours a day to meet both planned and any unplanned care and support requirements.

All applicants to Appleton Lodge will be assessed under the NHS and Community Care Act to ensure that they meet the Fair Access to Care Services (FACS) criteria for eligibility for services, and also to identify that the applicant has a clear assessed need for housing with extra care and support of this type.

If you wish any further information, or to make arrangements to view Appleton Lodge, please contact the HOME Estate Manager, tel: 01388 815 549.
