HIV Services and Advice

HIV, or Human Immunodeficiency Virus, once diagnosed, should not be underestimated. However, most people infected by HIV can expect to experience good health for many years.

Naturally, there are medical implications with HIV and these should be dealt with by the Health Services.

For those who are HIV infected, it can be helpful to talk to someone who is trained to recognise the personal issues involved with HIV infection.

It is recognised that no single agency can claim to meet all the needs that may arise following a diagnosis of HIV, and so Durham County's social care services work in close co-operation with the Health Agencies and voluntary organisations. Naturally, issues around confidentiality are important so no specialist workers would be contacted without the consent of the person involved.
