What Does a School Governor Do?
School governors are representatives of the various bodies who have an interest in the schools - Local Authority, staff, parents, etc.
As a group they are responsible for a school’s management, its standards, the way it deals with pupils and staff, its relationship with the wider community, certain financial matters, and so on.
Governors are responsible for broad matters of policy; detailed implementation is carried out by the teachers and other professionals.
What governors do, how they are appointed, and various other aspects of their work are covered by legislation.
