North Durham Area

It has been another successful year for us – reaching targets, improving quality and increasing the range of opportunities available for young people aged 13 – 19 years across the area. Over 2,000 young people have attended nearly 17,000 sessions of youth provision, including 95 educational visits and 20 residentials.

During the summer holiday period of 2006 over 350 young people took part in activities as diverse as making horror movies and competitive coast-to-coast bike rides. Youth work takes place in youth buildings, on the streets, in community centres and church halls – a variety of approaches to address the different needs of young people – ‘one size does not fit all’.

Young people have achieved great things – 90 awards were presented at the annual Young Achievers Celebration in November 2006, and Moorside won the County Emotional Well-being Art competition. The Annual Youth Work Survey of 2006 gave a 99.9% satisfaction rating by young people, with 43% claiming the service they received was excellent!

Staff and volunteers have worked hard to achieve these results – a big thank you to everyone involved and I look forward to working with you all next year.
