Dales Area

The Youth Service in the Dales area (Wear Valley and Teesdale District Council areas) provides a wide range of opportunities and places to meet, for young people particularly targeting the 13 – 19 year old age range. These opportunities are developed and delivered in partnership with local community associations in community centres, church halls, village halls, community schools and other suitable venues.

Young people are actively encouraged to develop their own programmes and opportunities supported by qualified youth work staff. The essential ingredients are to create choice, develop new skills, take on new challenges and to have fun.

A total of 19 projects support the delivery of a range of programmes:

  • Open access, drop-in youth clubs
  • Specific project work, (music, arts, drama, etc.)
  • Activities just for girls
  • Activities just for boys
  • Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
  • Accredited work
  • Qualifications from Level 1 – 3 (Youth Work)
  • International exchanges
  • Residentials
  • Opportunities to be involved in decision making
  • Opportunities for volunteering
  • Detached youth work

Education in the Community is proud of its ability to respond to local need and is always keen to hear from young people and/or adults with ideas for their local community.

We have a team of nationally and locally qualified and experienced full and part-time youth workers however we are keen to welcome new volunteers into the Service, providing initial induction, basic training and on-going support.

Leadership for the Service in the Dales area is provided by the Youth Work Team who are based in various locations around the Dales and supported by the Area Office, 01388 662577.
