Date of decision (i.e. date of Cabinet meeting): 18 December 2008Description of decision to be made: To determine whether to approve the statutory public notice issued on 9 October 2008 proposing to close Shotton Hall Infant and Junior schools with effect from 31 August 2011 and reorganised them into a new-build primary school from September 2011.

To determine whether to begin the 'competition' process for a new school by issuing and 'Invitation to Bid' notice.

Main consultees and means of consultation: The first period of consultation took place during October 2008. The closing date for responses is 21 November 2008. Consultation documents were sent to: County councillors, MPs, parents, pupils, governors, staff, trade unions, district and parish councils, early years education providers, neighbouring schools and local authorities. Meetings held with Governors, staff, parents and the public. If Cabinet decides to progress with the competition to provide a new school the means of consultation will be reponding to an 'Invitation to Bid' notice which will be posted in newspapers.
When and how to make representations: Interested parties wishing to enter the copmetition will submit bids to: The School Places Team, Children and Young People's Services, County Hall, Durham, DH1 5UJ; schoolplaces@durham.gov.uk. Later in the process, a public meeting will be held so that members of the community can hear more about the new proposers for the new school.
