Appeals and Complaints Committee
The Appeals and Complaints Committee is made up of 30 Members of the Council who determine appeals made against any decision made by or on behalf of the Council.

The Committee's main functions include:
- Hearing and determining re-grading appeals under procedures agreed with the Trade Unions
- Determining appeals against decisions on the award of discretionary financial assistance to students
- Determining appeals against the exercise of the Council’s functions as a Social Services Authority
- Making arrangements for determining appeals under the Access to Personal Files Regulations.
The Chief Officer Appointments Committee
The Chief Officer Appointments Committee is made up of 15 councillors, including all members of the Cabinet. Its main function is to appoint and dismiss the Chief Executive, chief officers and deputy chief officers. The Leader of the Council is the Chair of the Committee.
