Budgetary Process

Involvement with the Budgetary Process

Each year the Council plans its spending for the following year.
  • Do you know where the money comes from?
  • Do you know how we make decisions?
  • Do you run a mile when people mention budgets?
There are many regulations and procedures surrounding the way in which the County Council operates financially, these procedures are detailed in the Council's constitution and in our financial regulations. The Council's financial year runs from April to the following March and each year the Council goes through a process to discuss the budget for the next financial year. The proposals go to a Full Council meeting where they are voted on, and, whatever is agreed, is implemented as the Council's budget for the next year.

If you would like to ask a question or make any comments about the budget consultation process, including any ideas about how it could be improved in future years, or if you would like to find out about the budgetary consultation conducted last year, please contact Corporate Services or the County Treasurer.

A large amount of information about council budgets is contained in the minutes of council meetings.
