Metrology Laboratories

Durham County Council Trading Standards offer comprehensive calibration and testing facilities. Our independent laboratory provides a quality, confidential, service designed to meet current trading needs which enable you to compete in the marketplace.

Metrology Services

  • Provision for the calibration and evaluation of working standards and testing equipment.
  • Traceable calibrations for a wide range of weighing and measuring equipment:
    • Local authority working standards and testing equipment 20kg - 1mg
    • Cast iron weights up to 20kg
    • Brass and stainless steel weights 25kg to 1mg
    • Glass measures
    • Steel and brass liquid measures
    • Spirit optics
    • Tape measures & metric rules
    • Weighing machines
  • Certified weights are available for hire.

All calibrations carried out by the laboratory are traceable to UK national standards and are therefore suitable for quality assured systems under BS/EN/ISO 9000.

Other fields of calibration will be considered upon request. You may submit your calibration request online.

The service is also an EC Approved Body (No. 0325) for the calibration and approval of EC Approved Weighing Equipment.

Quality Policy Statement

Durham County Council, Trading Standards, is committed to maintain the highest possible quality of service to meet the needs of its customers. Our Quality Manual describes the quality practices followed within the Service to achieve these aims. The Quality Management System in the Manual meets the requirements detailed below:

It is the responsibility of all staff to comply with the relevant policies and practices laid down in the Manual and associated documentation at all times, unless there are any modifications to the agreed policies and practices formally authorised by means of a written concession by the Quality Manager.
