Statement of Intent - Towards a Better Future

The following attachment is Durham County Council’s first strategy, (currently in draft form), looking at the provision of services for Gypsies and Travellers.

County Durham has traditionally been home to many Gypsy and Travelling people, and has a long affinity with the people who live in the County and those who pass through our County on their way to fairs such as those at Appleby and Yarm, or who come to visit for economic or social reasons.

As a County Council, we have had some notable successes in serving Gypsy and Travelling people like the significant site provision. Some things could be even better like the levels of engagement and consultation with the Gypsy and Traveller communities. This strategy strives to provide even services for the Gypsy and Traveller communities. You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view this information.
