Community Safety

Community Safety is situated within the Adults and Communities Service of Durham County Council.

Community Safety was established in March 1998 to coordinate the County Council's corporate response to the Crime and Disorder Act 1998. Its purpose is to support the Authority's corporate theme to promote "strong, healthy and safe communities", more specifically that element which relates to the safety of communities through crime prevention and reduction, as well as tackling fear of crime.

Community Safety is a general term that encompasses work to improve quality of life by tackling the causes and symptoms of crime and disorder.

The Community Safety team are:

  • Caroline Duckworth - Community Safety Manager
  • Graham McArdle - Principal Community Safety Officer
  • Kirsty Wilkinson - Community Safety Officer
  • Janet Worthington - Community Safety Officer
  • Sean Barry - Community Safety Officer
