Equality & Diversity Team
Who We Are
Durham County Council is committed to securing genuine equality of opportunity, whether required by law or not, in all aspects of its activities as an employer and service provider. We recognise that policies alone will not change discrimination or disadvantage, so we will actively seek to address unfair discrimination against disadvantaged people to ensure equality of opportunity. We will work to encourage and support disadvantaged or under-represented groups to access our services and employment. We will also work across all communities to promote good relations and celebrate the diverse talents of the people who live or work in County Durham, along with those who visit.
The County Council has an Equality and Diversity Steering Group of senior managers representing all our Services, they are responsible for deciding how we should improve as a council.
We also have an Equality and Diversity Team who provide advice and support to staff across the council, they also work with national and local organisations to identify the practical improvements we need to make. There are currently five people in the team:
- Equality and Diversity Manager
- Equality Co-ordinators (two)
- Equality Administration Officer
- Access Officer
