The County Durham Community Legal Service Partnership

Community Legal Service Partnerships are at the heart of the CLS. They bring together those who fund legal and advice services (such as the Legal Services Commission, the local authorities, local and national charities) with those who supply these services (such as lawyers and advice centres). Partnerships can also involve groups who represent the interests of users of legal and advice services, such as community groups. The job of Partnerships is to assess the need for legal services in their area. They must also work together to ensure that the right kind of services are available to meet priority needs.

County Durham has a well-established Community Legal Services Partnership set up in May 2000. The Partnership has a diverse membership including the Legal Services Commission, county and district councils, solicitors, Citizens Advice Bureaux and a number of other independent advice agencies.
