Education Development Service

Durham’s Education Development Service has, as its focus, school improvement and effectiveness. It is structured to reflect the functions that we deliver - Monitoring, Challenge, Intervention, Negotiation/Consultancy, Off-site Learning and Development Activities and Contracted Development Work with Schools. We aim to ensure that professionals in the service work flexibly to deliver aspects of the full range of functions.

The vision of the Education Development Service is:

To work with schools to ensure the highest quality educational quality.

In pursuit of our vision we seek to operate as an outward-looking service in which we behave with professional integrity recognising and celebrating achievement. We will share our vision through professional communication with sensitivity, mutual respect and understanding so that all clearly understand our common purpose and can be active participants in the pursuit of excellence. To this end we will:

  • Provide a first class, consistent, integrated service which works professionally with all stakeholders and meets their needs and aspirations.
  • Support and challenge our schools to continually improve, further raising the achievements of their pupils by providing high quality professional development linked with up-to-date and appropriate interventions which build on best practice and research.
  • Fulfil our individual roles with professionalism and integrity.
