Music

The Arts Development team works strategically across the whole of the county to create further opportunities for its residents to enjoy and participate in music in its many forms.

Durham County Council supports Brass Bands in County Durham in a number of ways.

  • The brass band annual support grant offers funding assistance to the county's brass bands, particularly for work to encourage young players and to extend repertoires.
  • A workshop programme providing specialist tuition for young players aged 11 - 25 years old runs twice a year.
  • During the summer months a brass band concert programme usually takes place in the grounds of the DLI Museum and Durham Art Gallery on Sunday afternoons.

Classical Concerts

And for those who just want to sit and listen: the DLI plays host to regular classical concerts performed by Durham Young Musicians. These take place in the museum's very attractive 'Light' Gallery.

Handbook

If your looking for a music society in your area, whether choir, band, amateur dramatic or any other form of music expression or appreciation, try looking in Music Organisations in County Durham which is a handbook produced by the Arts Development team, and available in all libraries in County Durham, or look on the County Council's Community Information Online Database.
