Literature and Creative Writing

The Culture and Leisure Service funds and manages a range of literature and creative writing initiatives in the county. There are also a number of projects that are carried out in partnership with other organisations.
  • The Branching Out Project managed by the library service, brings a variety of author events and promotions.
  • For younger readers there are projects such as Bookstart, StorySacks and BiBs (Babies into Books).
  • Bishop Auckland Town Hall runs an established programme of author events, a national competition and creative writing courses.
  • We also contribute to the Durham Literature Festival, an annual event that takes place in Durham City.
