Protecting / supporting vulnerable adults this are should be controlled with the support of vulnerable children, as a lifecycle programme. Improving health- this should be covered by the best use of Nhs resources- should not be a county council programme. Quality of the environment- this should be managed by the enviroment agency. Public transport is expensive, unreliable in terms of service, and does not cover enough areas to be of a benefit to reduce the number of cars. Waste management should be controlled by the enviroment agency, but the county council should have an interest in obtaining the best / value /cost effective use of contractors, for removal, transportation, and recycling of waste. Promoting economic wellbeing- yes this should be a county council involement in trying to get more / better employers in the region, before trying to reduce numbers on incapacity benefit, the areas of getting this people to and from work would have to be considered, ie public transport- it would be no good giving someone a job 30 miles from their home, just because they can use a computer, but are unbale to drive or use public transport without assistance.YesNoNoYesNoBuilding schools for the future, according to reports there are less children? better structure / improvements of exsisting schools, would be more cost effective. A transport infrastructure and reducing the rate of decline in public transport- needs lots of careful thinking about the best way forward. People with learning disabilities- sorry but they are not going to contribute to the income of the county council, i feel they have already enough resources already. Older people to retain their independence - is a good idea but we are getting more and more older people, as people live longer, people have to invest for their own pensions, if they want to retain independance let them assist more with the cost.Noas aboveYesNoLowerI think that it should be lower as pay rises are not keeping up with inflation, and most goods and service are more expensive, than in previous years. In real terms i have less to spend each month due to fuel costs for heating lighting and runing a car, which i need to get to work, as there is no public transport to cover my working pattern. The county council should consider fitting timers to the street lights, so that they can be turned off at say 2:30am- 4:30am, or set up so that alternative lights during them hours are turned off. On major roads the overhead lights could be reduced as above. set up more signpost lights with solar lighting, this would need an outlay but would be a benefit in the long term. When Replacement vehicles for the ageing fleet are required, then these should be dual fuel. Hired vehicles shold be provided this way too from the hirer, this would give them an incentive to buy and hire out more eco friendly vehicles.Less importantLess importantNot importantNot importantNot importantNot importantNot importantImportantImportantLess importantLess importantNot importantNot importantLess importantNot importantNot importantLess importantImportantNot importantImportantImportantLess importantLess importantLess importantNot importantImportantNot at allNot at allFutureFutureFutureFutureNowNow27/11/2007 22:33:49YesYesNo25 - 60YesYesNoNoNoNoNoNoNoNoNoNoNoNoYesYesNoNoYesNoNoNoNoNoNoNoNoNoNoNoNoNoThe council wants to promote Durham as a place for tourist to visit ( the norths answer to York ) yet it wants to cut back the funding for one of the few museums and the only art gallery that durham has , this when other museums and art gallerys are being made free to all. If the proposed cuts of £7.5m could be justified by reducing staffing levels and improving efficiency while maintaining the services to the community then the voters would applaud this. However, as a former employee of Durham County Council ( retired ) I am well aware that these measures have been taken over the past ten years. Therefore, instead of inviting the public to take part in the decisions as to where to cut services, as a democratically elected body answerable to the people of Durham , the County Council should in my view be asking the voters if cuts in services should take place at all. This government was elected to improve services and achieve value for money. It was not elected to reduce services to the community at all, and certainly not after ten years of " unprecedented economic growth ".YesYesYesYesYesYesNoSee comments above. If the proposed grant reduction of £7.5m cannot be achieved without cuts in services then the grant reduction should be opposed. The government was not ellected to reduce services to the community.
