"Open Your Eyes" Art Resource Pack for Teachers of Key Stages 1 & 2

"Open Your Eyes" is an art resource pack for Key Stage 1 & 2 teachers, specially designed for the DLI Museum & Durham Art Gallery in Durham City.

"Encouraging children to understand and appreciate works of art and design is made easier and more exciting if you show real artefacts, paintings and drawings." - Art in the National Curriculum - Durham County Council, Guidance Materials

Art activity at the DLI

The DLI Museum & Durham Art Gallery offers schools the opportunity to see a varied programme of 12 exhibitions every year. Exhibitions this year range from charcoal drawings to life-sized paper sculptures; from caricatures to landscape photography; from etchings to portraits.

To help teachers make full use of a class visit to the dli, regardless of the type of exhibition, Marie Neeson - art curator and education consultant - has designed "Open Your Eyes" - a resource pack for teachers specially written for Key Stages 1 & 2.

This resource pack includes advice on planning a visit, pre-visit preparation and follow-up work in the classroom. With an Activity Book for Key Stage 1 and a range of Worksheets for Key Stage 2, "Open Your Eyes" also looks at cross-curricular opportunities that can be linked to an art gallery trip.

"Open Your Eyes" is freely available to download and print. To find out more contact Sheila Gray. A Hazard Identification Sheet is available to help you write your risk assessment.
