*Anon. "Brigadier General R B Bradford VC MC & his brothers". nd. Reprinted by Ray Westlake, Newport. ISBN 1 871167 24 8. Biographies of four County Durham WW1 brothers. Roland served with 2 & 9 DLI. Roland & George both awarded VC’s.

*English Ian. "Assisted Passage. Walking to Freedom Italy 1943". 1994. ISBN 0 9524073 0 2. Vivid personal account of POW escape in Italy. Author served with 8 DLI & was awarded Military Cross & two bars.

*De Lisle General Sir Beauvoir. "Reminiscences of Sport and War". 1939. Eyre & Spottiswoode, London. Fine autobiography, full of interesting anecdotes. The author, commissioned in 2 DLI, rose to command 29th Division & 15th Corps.

*Green John, "A Soldier's Life 1806 - 1815". 1973. E P, Wakefield. Splendid account of life during Napoleonic Wars. Originally published as "Vicissitudes of a Soldier's Life", 1827. Louth.

*Lyon P H B. "Songs of Youth and War". 1918. Erskine Macdonald, London. Lieutenant Lyon MC served with 6 DLI and was captured in 1918. Some of these poems had previously been published in magazines.

*Parker Ernest. "Into Battle 1914 - 1918". 1964. Longmans, London. Only published account by DLI Great War soldier. Served with 10 DLI 1915 & fought at Loos before being commissioned in Royal Fusiliers. Re-printed 1994 by Leo Cooper, London. ISBN 0 85052 4288. With an introduction by John Terraine.

*Shannon. Stephen D. "Beyond Praise. The Durham Light Infantrymen who were awarded the Victoria Cross". 1998. County Durham Books. ISBN 1 897585 44 6. Illustrated biographies of the 11 DLI men awarded the VC, with foreword by Captain Richard Annand VC.

*Shepherd Norman Robinson . "Essays". 1923. Fenwick & Wade, Newcastle upon Tyne. Captain Shepherd was killed in action with 7 DLI in 1916 near the Butte de Warlencourt. With an introduction by his father.
