Workshops

A range of workshops and training days have been held over the last five years. As well as the training element to these one day events there has been an opportunity for networking amongst groups and individuals. A number of informalCHP - Community Heritage Project - Advice - Workshops - Gallery have been held on a variety of topics since the Project started in 2003. Twenty-five training sessions have been held for community groups over the last five years on the following topics:

Getting Started on a Group Local History Project


This workshop was designed for:
  • Groups interested in starting their first project.
  • Groups who had already done a project and were looking for new ideas.
  • Groups who wanted to increase their membership by getting involved in a project

Documentation


This workshop offered:
  • a basic introduction to documenting collections held by local history societies and community groups
  • advice and guidance on storing and protecting community collections

Oral History

  • Advice and guidance on the best way to undertake oral history projects
  • Practical sessions on interviewing and using recording equipment

History Writers


This workshop was designed for groups who were interested in:
  • Producing a book, booklet, website or leaflet about their community's history

Carpets & Catalogues


A six session documentation project for local history societies and ex-employees of the Hugh MacKay carpet factory. A group of local history society members and ex-employees have been working alongside Gill Parkes, Principle Archivist, to catalogue the factory archive which is held in the County Record Office. The group has been working on the photographic collection and have produced an exhibition of their work.
