Key Indicator / Prompt
  • Be considerate.
Follow the seven-point Code of Considerate Practice (Construction Industry Board, Tel: 01920 872 837).
Make the Code of Practice part of the tender package.

  • Use local materials and labour.
Are there materials that exist on site that can be reused?
Have you chosen materials that are produced in the local area?
Plug into local labour initiatives; contact labour agencies.
Specify local labour as a requirement of the tender/contract.

  • Use materials that minimise the use of natural resources and energy.
Refer to the latest green consumer handbooks, eco-labeling systems and green guides.
Identify systems and prioritise materials with low embodied energy, those produced using renewable resources and environmentally benign processes.

  • Designate an Environmental Champion.
To ensure sustainability is embedded in the development process, from the design stage through construction to handover.

  • And use the guidance in other sections
Minimise Waste, Protect Wildlife and their Habitats.
