The leaders of the seven local councils, the North of Tyne Mayor and Northumbria's Police and Crime Commissioner encourage people to work together to move out of Tier 3 as quickly and as safely as possible.

Supported swim

We offer swimming sessions which have been developed to offer a safe and friendly environment for people who need extra support when coming to the swimming pool.

Our leisure centres have reopened. Only gyms and swimming pools that were operating prior to the recent lockdown will be open, but we will be launching a virtual fitness class programme soon. Classes will be streamed live on our facebook page @DurhamThriveActive. We will be monitoring government guidance closely and will restart fitness classes in our leisure centres as soon as we are able to.

See our Leisure centres re-opening information page for more information.

What is it and how can it help me?

If you need additional support to come along to a swimming session, come along and take part in one of our supported swimming sessions at Spennymoor leisure centre.

We offer weekly supported swimming sessions which take place during public swimming times. Our aim is to help you have a safe, enjoyable and stress free visit. You'll be welcomed by our specially trained staff who are there to support you if you need it at reception, in the changing area and in the pool.

Where can I join a session?

Spennymoor leisure centre

2.30pm - 3.30pm every Monday.

Contact Spennymoor Leisure Centre for more information.

All sessions cost £2.80 including refreshments and are free to carers supporting someone who comes along for the session.

Even if you haven't been swimming for years and are not sure if you can remember how, come along and give it a try. You can either turn up to the session or contact us first if you would like to have a chat about anything beforehand.
