Proposal to merge South Stanley Infant and South Stanley Junior schools

We are proposing to merge South Stanley Infant School and South Stanley Junior School into a single primary school on existing sites from 1 January 2017.

What changes are being proposed?

We are moving where possible towards a model of all through primary schools instead of having separate nursery, infant and junior schools as we believe that educationally it is in the best interests of the children, parents and staff. Both schools work closely together for the benefit of all pupils and having a single school on the same site would be helpful for families in the local community.

The proposal would be achieved by changing the age range of South Stanley Junior School from 7-11 to 3-11 from 1 January 2017 and by closing South Stanley Infant School as a separate school in name only on 31 December 2016. The infant school building will continue to be used.

Have your say

A public consultation ran from 14 April 2016 to 27 May 2016.

A statutory public notice was issued on 23 June 2016 and closed on 21 July 2016.

What happens next?

Having taken account of responses received, the council has withdrawn the proposal to merge South Stanley Infant and Junior Schools.
