Proposal to merge Crook Primary School and Crook Nursery School

Find details of a proposal to merge Crook Primary School and Crook Nursery School into a single primary school on existing sites from 1 September 2016.

Why was this proposed?

Where possible, we are moving to primary schools, instead of having separate nursery, infant and junior schools. We believe that this is in the best interests of the children, parents and staff.

Both schools work closely together for the benefit of all pupils and having a single school on the same site would be helpful for families in the local community.

The proposal was to change the age range of Crook Primary School from 4-11 to 3-11 from 1 September 2016 and to close Crook Nursery School as a separate school in name only on 31 August 2016. There was no intention to discontinue the use of the nursery school building.

Further details regarding the proposal are set out in the attached consultation document.

What happened?

The proposal to amalgamate Crook Primary and Nursery Schools with effect from 1 September 2016 was agreed by Cabinet on 16 March 2016. The reasons given for agreeing the proposal were that it will preserve and enhance education provision in Crook and will bring about wider educational benefits for pupils, parents and staff.

The amalgamation was achieved by changing the age range of Crook Primary School from 4-11 to 3-11 from 1 September 2016 and by closing Crook Nursery School as a separate school on 31 August 2016. The amalgamated primary school now runs across the sites of Crook Primary School and Crook Nursery School.
