North Pennine Dales LEADER
The North Pennine Dales area covers covers Teesdale, Weardale, South Tynedale, rural mid-Durham and rural Gateshead.
Please be aware the North Pennine Dales LEADER is now closed to expressions of interest.
Who is eligible?
If you or your organisation falls into one of the categories below, you may be eligible to apply for funding.
- Farmers
- Growers
- Private businesses
- Public organisations
- Voluntary organisations
- Groups of businesses
- Charities
- Someone who wants to start a business
- Private forest holders
- Forestry contractors
If you or your organisation is not in this list, and you feel that you may be eligible, please contact us for more information.
What can the funding pay for?
Example of items that the funding may be available for:
- Farming equipment and machinery
- Construction of improvement to buildings
- Equipment and machinery to increase forestry productivity
- Intangible investments (e.g. specialist computer software)
- Patents, licenses, copyrights, trademarks
- General costs, such as architect, engineer or consultant fees
- Marketing and promotion development

Funding priorities
In addition to being in a qualifying area, your project must fall under one of the priorities below:
- increasing farm productivity - now closed to new applications
- supporting farm diversification
- starting or developing a rural micro or small business
- supporting rural tourism
- supporting services in rural areas
- developing or maintaining a cultural or heritage project - now closed to new applications
