Apprentices and National Traineeship trainees
You may not have to pay as much or any council tax if you're an apprentice or a National Traineeship trainee.
If you're an apprentice, you may not pay or qualify for it, if you're:
- employed for the purposes of learning a trade, business, profession, office, employment or vocation
- completing training which leads to an accredited qualification
- receiving no more than £195 per week before any deductions for tax or national insurance.
National Traineeship trainees
If you're under 25 years old and taking part in a National Traineeship programme, you won't be counted when calculating council tax.
Individual training plans issued by the training provider and showing the course start and end dates is evidence of trainee status.
