Aycliffe Secure Centre - information for parents and carers

We provide a secure environment for both male and female young people aged 10-18 who have been admitted to our home through the courts or by councils on a welfare basis (known as Section 25). This may be because they are a risk to themselves or others, or because there is a concern about their involvement with criminal activities.

The decision to place your child at Aycliffe Secure Centre could be for many reasons and our role is to keep them safe. We will assess their needs to help us to work alongside you and your child.

All young people will have an identified 'Key Worker', who will work closely with them and coordinate their care. The Key Worker is responsible for making sure the needs of the young person are met on a day-to-day basis, contributing to their preparation prior to returning to the community and acting as an interface with wider stakeholders. The Key Worker will work with the young person to find out what they want to achieve in relation to education, health, leisure activities, developing a wide range of life skills and supporting the 'Team Around the Child' care planning process.

We have a spacious purpose designed building that is divided into five separate homes: Auckland, Barnard, Durham, Lumley and Walworth. Each of the homes can house between six to eight young people. Your child has their own bedroom which can be personalised with posters and family pictures and the bedroom has an en suite toilet and shower.

We have a wide range of facilities including:

  • lounge area, dining area, kitchen, bathroom/shower and toilets
  • computer and games area, craft and art activity area
  • school
  • swimming pool, gym/fitness room, sports hall
  • all-weather sports pitch
  • courtyards for games and activities
