Living Streets Project
The Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF) offers funding from central government for measures to encourage sustainable travel.
The current fund period is between 2011 and March 2015. The projects which are funded through this grant are required to show that by encouraging sustainable travel, we can not only encourage economic growth, but also break the traditional link to increasing carbon emissions from transport.
We were successful in our bid to the Local Sustainable Transport fund with support from Living Streets: the national charity established to create safe and enjoyable street space.
Partners in the bid include Hertfordshire County Council, Buckinghamshire County Council, Hampshire County Council, West Sussex County Council, Leicester City Council, Stoke on Trent City Council, Hartlepool Borough Council, Wirral Borough Council, Blackpool Council and Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council.
The scheme is to deliver a walk to school outreach programme to sustain increases in the numbers of children walking to school.
A copy of the bid can be found below.
We have submitted a second bid to the Local Sustainable Transport Fund 2015/16 with support from Living Streets, the national charity that works to create safe, attractive and enjoyable streets where people want to walk.
Building on our successful Walk to School Outreach project, this work would enable us to continue and expand our existing walk to school initiative. We would also reach businesses and communities in areas of high congestion to increase walking for local trips.
Durham leads a partnership of 13 local authorities for this bid, along with Living Streets and Modeshift, a national membership organisation that specialises in active and sustainable travel.
