The amount you get depends on your household circumstances. This includes the following:
The temporary traffic lights on the A167 outside the Honest Laywer at the Sunderland Bridge roadworks will be in place during rush hour today (7 July). Please avoid the area if possible as delays are likely. We're very sorry for the disruption and will be working to remove the lights as soon as possible.
How to check how much housing benefit you could get and make a claim.
When you make your application, we'll tell you what documents we need to see. You should provide this evidence as quickly as possible to avoid delaying your claim. If it's not provided within a month then your claim may not be processed. You can submit your documents in the following ways:
Unfortunately we cannot accept documents by email. Find out more about what information you should provide.
We may be able to visit you at home to collect the documentary evidence we need. Contact us for more information on this service
Once we have received all supporting documents, your claim will be processed. We will write to you to confirm your benefit entitlement, telling you how much you will receive and how we reached that decision. We will then make arrangements to pay your benefit.
Housing benefit can help pay your rent if you're on a low income.
If your claim is turned down, or you are not happy with the level of benefit you have been awarded, you can ask us to look at the decision again.
