Discretionary Housing Payment (DHP)

Discretionary Housing Payments (DHPs) are stand alone payments that support tenants who need further financial assistance to help meet their housing costs.

They are payments made at our discretion and are mainly of a short-term, temporary nature. They are not benefit payments.

Qualifying for DHP

Before your application for DHP is accepted, you, or your representative, must demonstrate to your landlord, or our Housing Solutions team, that you are doing everything you can to address the issues affecting you. These might include accommodation issues, debt, welfare or benefits issues and employability prospects.

DHP awards will only be made where we think that additional support will help you find a longer term solution to your housing and financial problems.
