Durham History Centre phase 3 consultation

Have your say on your expectations of a visit to the new history centre.

Background

Over the past three years, we have asked you to tell us how you would like to see the new Durham History Centre developed. We have listened to your ideas and are closer to having our plans in place to make the centre a modern, welcoming, vibrant and interesting venue.

We received planning permission in September 2020 to restore and extend the grade II listed Mount Oswald Manor House, which will be home to a new local history centre and register office for the county, which will open in 2023. It will offer the story of the history and heritage of the county from one central location,  as told through historic records, photographs and objects.

You can read more about our 2018 consultation and 2019 consultation.

To read more about the project, what you can expect to find at the centre and the collections that will be there, visit our Durham History Centre pages.

What we want your views on next

We want to learn more about what you would like from a visit to the centre, such as the types of activities and exhibitions which would interest you, your friends and family either at the centre or from the comfort of your own home.

Our survey will ask you about:

  • your expectations of a visit to the new centre
  • activities, events, collections and how you can participate and engage with them
  • digital engagement such as touchscreens, social media, virtual reality

Online discussion groups

We and our project partners would like to have more in-depth conversations with you. If you would like to take part in an online group chat to discuss our plans for Durham History Centre in more detail, please provide your email address at the end of the survey.

If you are chosen to take part, you will be entered for a prize draw to win one of three prizes of £50, £20 and £10 shopping vouchers as a thank you for your time. The draw will be held on Monday 16 November 2020.
