Bus service changes (including Park and Ride) for New Elvet Bridge works
The closure of New Elvet Bridge may mean that your usual bus services take a different route. This page outlines the changes to help you plan your journey.
Until the bridge closure starts on 20 July 2020, bus services will continue to operate their current routes and schedules.
From the 20 July the following changes will come into effect:
Service 6, 56, 57, 57A, 58 and X12 will divert via Quarryheads Lane and Margery Lane to and from the bus station, omitting the normal stops on Church Street, New Elvet Bridge, Millburngate Bridge and Claypath underpass. The bus stop at Millburngate on southbound journeys will also be omitted. For other stops their normal timetables will operate.
Go North East
Service 40b (currently suspended) will run directly between the rail station and University Mountjoy centre serving stops at Quarryheads Lane and Stockton Road. A revised timetable will be in operation.
Service 57X will divert via Quarryheads Lane and Margery Lane to and from the bus station, omitting normal stops on Church Street, New Elvet and Millburngate Bridge. For other stops their normal timetable will operate.
Service S1 will divert via Quarryheads Lane and Margery Lane to and from Claypath, omitting normal stops on Church Street and New Elvet. A revised timetable will be in operation.
Howlands Park and Ride (PR2)
During the works the PR2 service will serve all stops between Howlands Park and Ride, New Elvet and Durham Crown Court. Full details can be found on the Durham City Park and Ride page.
